TradeList Terms of Service
These terms govern access to and use of TradeList, including directory listings, homeowner tools, claims, accounts, and project requests.
Effective July 11, 2026
1. Agreement and operator
TradeList is operated by Velveteen Technologies Inc. ("Velveteen", "we", "us", or "our"), a British Columbia company. By accessing or using tradelist.ca or any related TradeList feature (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Eligibility and authority
You must be legally capable of agreeing to these Terms. If you use the Service for a business or another person, you confirm that you have authority to bind them and that "you" includes that person or business. Account credentials must be kept confidential, and you are responsible for activity under your account.
3. What TradeList is
TradeList is an informational directory and request-routing service. Unless a page expressly says otherwise, we are not a contractor, broker, agent, employer, insurer, licensing body, building inspector, or party to an agreement between a visitor and a listed business.
"Claimed" means that we have completed a profile-control verification process and connected the profile to an owner account. "Verified" means ownership evidence has been approved while secure account setup remains pending. Neither state is an endorsement or guarantee of licensing, insurance, qualifications, availability, pricing, workmanship, safety, or fitness for a project. "Unclaimed" information is compiled from public sources and has not been verified by the listed business.
4. Directory information and rankings
We aim for useful, source-backed information, but directory records can be incomplete, outdated, duplicated, or incorrect. You must independently verify identity, licensing, insurance, WorkSafeBC status, permits, references, scope, pricing, warranties, and any other fact important to your project. A listing, ordering, badge, link, or profile does not constitute advice or endorsement.
Within results relevant to the selected trade, location, and search, claimed profiles may be prioritized first, followed by verified profiles whose owner account setup is pending, then unverified public profiles. Relevance, location fit, source-backed profile quality, capped external profile signals, and deterministic tie-breaking help order businesses within each group. Older or undated external metrics receive less weight. Claimed or verified status does not guarantee first position and is not an endorsement. See our ranking methodology.
Sponsored placements, if introduced, will be identified and will not determine the underlying editorial or directory ranking unless clearly disclosed at the point of use.
5. Homeowner tools and safety information
Checklists, planners, reminders, estimates, and articles are general educational information. They are not engineering, electrical, plumbing, construction, legal, insurance, financial, code, or emergency advice. Conditions differ by property and jurisdiction. Follow emergency instructions from authorities and hire an appropriately qualified professional when a task involves risk, permits, regulated work, or uncertainty.
6. Project requests and third-party services
Submitting a project request does not guarantee review, a referral, a response, availability, a quote, or a contract. If we share a reviewed request with a business, that business acts independently. You are responsible for evaluating any response and agreeing directly on scope, price, payment, timing, safety, and warranties. We are not responsible for a third party's acts, omissions, communications, or services.
7. Claims, corrections, and removal requests
You must provide accurate information and may claim or edit a profile only when authorized. We may verify authority through official business channels, request evidence, reject or reverse a claim, preserve an audit record, or limit edits needed to protect record integrity. We may correct, merge, restrict, or remove information at our discretion and as required by law, but we do not guarantee that every requested change will be made.
8. Your submissions
You retain ownership of content you submit. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, reproduce, adapt, verify, publish, and distribute it only as reasonably needed to operate, secure, explain, and promote the Service. You confirm that your submission is accurate to the best of your knowledge, does not violate another person's rights, and does not contain unnecessary confidential or sensitive data.
9. Acceptable use
You must not:
- break the law, misrepresent identity, or impersonate a business;
- submit false, defamatory, infringing, harmful, or deceptive content;
- harvest personal information or use the Service for unsolicited marketing;
- scrape, copy, frame, or systematically extract the Service except for ordinary search-engine indexing allowed by our technical controls;
- probe security, bypass access controls, overload, or disrupt the Service;
- introduce malware or use automation in a way that harms users or systems; or
- use TradeList branding or content to imply endorsement or affiliation.
10. Our content and licence to you
The Service, design, software, original text, compilations, trademarks, and other Velveteen materials are owned by us or our licensors. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service for lawful personal or internal business purposes. Public facts and third-party marks remain subject to their respective rights.
11. External links and services
The Service may link to third-party sites, maps, review platforms, and providers. We do not control them and are not responsible for their availability, content, privacy practices, terms, products, or services. Use them at your own discretion.
12. Service changes and suspension
We may add, modify, suspend, or discontinue features and may restrict or terminate access when we reasonably believe it is necessary for security, legal compliance, abuse prevention, or protection of the Service or others. We do not promise uninterrupted or error-free availability.
13. Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties or conditions of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, availability, or results. Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or warranties that applicable law does not permit us to exclude.
14. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Velveteen and its directors, officers, employees, contractors, and affiliates will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, lost profits, lost data, property damage, personal injury, or losses arising from a listed business or third party. Our aggregate liability arising from the Service will not exceed the greater of CAD $100 and the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. These limits apply only where lawful.
15. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you will indemnify and hold Velveteen harmless from third-party claims, losses, and reasonable costs arising from your unlawful use of the Service, your submissions, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of another person's rights. This does not require you to indemnify us for our own unlawful conduct.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Subject to any mandatory consumer right, the courts located in British Columbia have exclusive jurisdiction. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.
17. General
If part of these Terms is unenforceable, the remaining terms continue in effect. Our failure to enforce a term is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them as part of a merger, financing, reorganization, or asset transfer. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement about the Service unless a separate written agreement applies.
18. Changes and contact
We may update these Terms by posting a revised version and effective date. We will provide additional notice where required. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the revised Terms.
